Nepal is known for its wool and fiber arts, and this crafty scarf shows them off in rich color. Artisans in Kathmandu layer patches of vintage silk saris and use a technique called nuno felting to create the dark, stained glass–like outline and a lightweight backing out of merino wool roving. Nuno felting uses warm water, soap, and hand-scrubbing to entangle the wool fibers with the weave of the silk, creating a highly textured fabric that drapes beautifully.
The sari fabric is over-dyed in either deep Red or cool Blue so that while no two scarves will be exactly the same, they will share a harmonious color palette.
